I took this series in the spring. I captured these images during a time when life felt uncertain and frightening. I found myself questioning who was responsible for our existence, whether God is real, and why our lives might be played with. In an attempt to visually represent these thoughts, I chose to depict a child's hands molding humans from clay to symbolize the divine hand shaping our lives. I instructed the child to play with the clay in any way she desired, mirroring how God might play with our lives. I then captured candid photographs of her playing with the clay. Later, I edited portraits onto these clay images to symbolize that the clay she played with represented the existence and creation of humanity.
